One of EMERG’s objectives is to promote approximation to the European Regulatory Framework and best practices among its Members (Article 1, EMERG Charter).
One way of bringing about this approximation is to organize thematic workshops where members address a specific subject, presenting their perspectives and difficulties and, where possible, prepare agreements and/or decisions to amend the legal or regulatory frameworks of the participating members as necessary; this will achieve harmonisation with current best practice in the region. This activity will have tangible results in the conclusions (and subsequently, commitments to approximation). Also, in the event that approximation remains unachievable, the reasons for diverging practices between the region’s different institutions will need to be clearly identified.
At the same time, EMERG will work to compile contact lists of NRA experts, each constituting an Expert Group on a specific subject. Although Expert Groups will meet only once a year, for the relevant workshop, their activity may be extended throughout the year with questionnaires and document drafting.
